80’s Themed Cupcake Toppers

I had a fun custom order request from a previous work acquaintance for some birthday cupcakes and cupcake toppers. I made these 80’s themed toppers for another client before and she requested the same ones, which include Pacman, cassette tapes, Rubik’s Cube, and I ❤ 80’s. The toppers added some fun to the cupcakes! Check them out:

Pacman Toppers. Fact: The Pacman arcade game first released in Japan in 1980.

Rubik’s Cube Toppers. Fact: Originally called the Magic Cube, these were sold by Ideal Toy Corp in 1980.

Cassette Tape Toppers. Fact: One of the most common formats for prerecorded music from the early 1970’s to 1990’s.

Birthday Cupcakes- First Official Order!

This weekend I had my first official order of cupcakes! My friend’s friend ordered birthday cupcakes for his aunt and chose three flavors- red velvet, green velvet, and lemon. I was a little nervous because I wanted to put my best foot forward and make the cupcakes as perfect as possible…after all, I didn’t want to disappoint my first customer.

Tangy Lemon Cupcakes

My sister gave me a bunch of lemons and I forgot about them until I saw them sitting in the fridge. I was meaning to use them sooner, and even found a lemon tart recipe. But the tart recipe looked like it would be a few days worth of process, and I needed something quick to make for a friend’s get together, so I opted for lemon cupcakes instead.

Since I love using fresh ingredients, I decided to use fresh lemon juice and add it to the batter. Not knowing whether or not others would like the tanginess, I was a little cautious with how much lemon juice I was adding. I’m a fan, so if I was making the cupcakes to devour all by myself I would have easily used the juice from two whole lemons! On top of that, I spiced up plain butter cream with a few drops of lemon juice and fresh lemon zest.

These are by far one of my favorite cupcakes. I’ll be tempted to make them again, but I’m also itching to make that lemon tart. Stay tuned…
